Pre-Meeting: Talk
about who is the main authority figures in their lives (parents). Read “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not
Take the Garbage Out” by Shel Silverstein Where the Sidewalk Ends 30th Anniversary Edition (rpkg): Poems and Drawings.
Girls can evaluate whether or not the character showed respect to an authority figure and if
there was a good or bad outcome because of that.
Opening & Business: Stand in
horseshoe, do pledge and say Promise and Law.
Pass a daisy, say what you want to be when you grow up.
Song: Make new friends,
but keep the old.
One is silver,
the other is gold.
A circle is round,
it has no end.
That's how long,
I will be your friend.
You have one hand,
I have the other.
Put them together,
We have each other
Daisy Circle: Talk to the girls about what it means to be
someone with authority and why they should be respected for their
knowledge. Ask the girls to give
examples of people with authority in their homes, schools, places of worship or
communities. Examples: teachers, principals, police officers, firefighters,
nurses, doctors, parents, troop leaders, judges, CEOs, job supervisors and babysitters.
• Who is the person you respect
the most?
• How do you show
that person you respect them?
• How does it make
you feel when someone with authority asks you to do something?
• What could you
do to show others that you are respectful?
• Have you ever been
disrespectful to someone with authority? What happened?
Introduce an authority figure in our school, Principal Mrs.
Jones. Think of some questions to ask
Mrs. Jones
Activity: Write Mrs. Jones a big thank you note for coming to our meeting.
Closing: Do friendship squeeze. Everyone says “1-2-3 Goodbye Daisy Girl Scouts” and twists out of circle.
